Anonymous: I've been a consistent follower of Marvel comics for years and everything that has happened regarding a hero's race has never been an issue for me with anyone until now. Spiderman being black just does not fit his aura or character period. Spiderman's character has always been witty, swift, and very humorous and that was because it was a white character that brought all of that to the table. What can a Black character bring to the Spiderman table? Nothing but cheap urban laughs and stereotypes

Ultimate universe bashing

Seriously what’s the point? Why bash something you gave up reading anyway? What does canceling the line do for you when nobody is forcing you to read the books. You’re still gonna read the same books that you were reading anyway. Before making selfish statements like canceling a line you need to consider the people who do like the ultimate line. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean everybody else feels the same way. Get over your hate and move along

I was inspired by another artist’s post to do something similar (more cynically: I ripped off his pic). That said, I feel like characters like Luke Cage, Miles Morales, Static, Milestone, and the new “Mighty Avengers” are very well suited to handling events/stories like this. Sure, “they aren’t real,” but they’re very inspirational to future generations of real heroes (non-corrupt police, fire & rescue, emergency services), as well as raising awareness of life situations like this through a visual medium. That’s what art is for right?

*whispers nervously: Now is when I’d, um, like to challenge the TUMBLR to depict a super/magical girl/henshin/sentai/vigilante hero (original or not) raising awareness of a particular issue they care deeply about (ALS, the conflict in the Middle East, Ferguson, etc.) Let’s use our talent to change the world.

This right here is a powerful moment and it shows that al Ewing doesn’t forget anybody. As he’s writing he’s making every character better and relevant.
